“If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
You may have started out with the best intentions. This time was going to be different. You were going to meet your challenges head on, and this time you were going to experience victory. For a while, you were doing well. People were so proud of you. You were proud of yourself. Your future seemed bright, and you had hope like never before.
Then you fell. You strayed. You compromised, and the fall was quick and devastating. You may may have tried to deny you were down. Perhaps you were the only one who knew you fell. You might have thought you could pretend nothing happened. You planned to pull yourself together in your own strength in hope that nobody noticed you skipped a beat. Maybe everybody knows and you are ashamed.
However it happened, the way back is the same. Humble yourself. Come to the Lover of your soul and admit you messed up.
No excuses.
No blaming your circumstances.
No blaming other people.
Own your failure. Anything less will waste time and delay what the Father has for you.
Forgiveness and cleansing await you, my friend. He longs to give it, but you must long to receive it. Do not downplay your sin. Do not obsess over it either. Confess it. Ask for His grace to abandon it. You never have been able to withstand temptation in your own strength nor will you ever. Good. You are in the perfect position for something amazing to happen. His strength is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Your failure is the perfect canvas on which God paints his best portraits of grace. Your downfall is the perfect page on which God writes His best stories. Get back up, come on back, and try again. This time can be different if you realize you cannot do this on your own. That’s humility. You need the help of other people. That’s accountability. You need the full assurance that God will be with you every step of the way. That is stability.
Come on back, my friend. You can succeed with God’s help. Come on back.
